My Story
I'm Jeremy McEvoy, the passionate photographer and videographer behind JQM Photo. My journey into photography began unexpectedly when my interest in IT started to fade. It was then that I discovered a new passion and a sense of rightness in holding a Sony a6000 camera. Since that pivotal moment, I've committed myself to honing my technical skills and using my natural eye for the extraordinary in the everyday to craft memorable visual narratives.
My time at New Paltz University, where I earned a BFA in Photography, significantly shaped my approach to photography. I evolved from taking what I describe as "wallpaper-esk" photos, to adding a storytelling element to my work. It was there that I learned to slow down, to see not just the beautiful moments, but the stories that unfold before and after.
One of my most significant projects, "Our Life Goes On," is a deeply personal narrative that documents my evolving relationship with my late father. I shot this project exclusively on 35mm and 4x5 black and white film, developing each frame myself. The project culminated in a series of 19 gelatin silver prints displayed at the Dorsky Gallery in New Paltz, a testament to the depth and personal resonance of my work.
Being friendly, professional, and outgoing, I effortlessly blend into the crowd while making friends along the way. Making people feel comfortable is really important to me. Let's face it, cameras can be intimidating! My technique involves a ground-up approach, starting with my equipment. A Sony A7iv and Sigma 28-70 f2.8 lens allow for incredible optical quality, while not being as big or as obnoxious as other options. This allows me to capture anything, anywhere, anytime. I firmly believe in the power of event photography and videography as a means to capture and preserve memories that last a lifetime.
What I find most rewarding about being an event photographer and videographer is seeing or hearing my clients' reactions after they view the event I've captured. The joy and surprise they express when noticing the unexpected moments I've caught, the candid expressions, and the funny faces, affirm the value of my work. I'm passionate about helping people preserve their special moments in a visually appealing and meaningful way.
In the future, I aim to continue growing as a professional, capturing and sharing more stories, and refining my skills. While I've always had a keen interest in the technical side of photography and the latest camera tech, I also have a deep love for black and white film photography. I particularly enjoy how large format cameras allow me to manipulate light in a very technical way.
I invite you to explore my work through my portfolio and galleries on this website, and you can also purchase prints of my work. If you'd like me to capture your special day or if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
